Theme Support

Reported by Jakub Suder | December 25th, 2010 @ 10:25 PM

It would be nice to have a few color schemes to choose from - at least let me choose something that doesn't have a dark background ;)

Or you could add a way to import Textmate color schemes...

You may want to take a look at this tool/lib http://coloration.sickill.net/

    • Title changed from “add color schemes” to “Theme Support”
    • Tag changed from color scheme to color scheme, css, styles, themes

Here are some suggestions for a theme editor:

    • "Preferences" menu with a section/tab called "Themes"
    • "Themes" shows all installed themes (maybe a small preview image...) with the ability to add/edit/remove themes
    • "Themes" could just read the directory with the CSS files and then uses a Kod tab to edit the themes (e.g. when you click "Edit theme").
    • After a save, the style is refreshed automatically so you can quickly preview changes to the theme.
    • "Creating a theme" could just create a new CSS file and open it with Kod automatically. (maybe have the default CSS theme as a default which you can then edit to suit?)
    • "Delete theme" could just move the theme to the Mac OSX Trash can (which would enable undoing of accidental deletes).
    • Some way to "activate" a theme.
    • Possibly a "Copy Theme" button so you can copy over an existing theme and then modify it how you want.
    • "Import Kod Theme" which basically allows a user to add a Kod theme CSS file via a browse interface, rather than copy-paste.
    • Maybe some way to import themes from TextMate like Jakub suggests, maybe "Import TextMate theme"
    • Custom user installed themes should go somewhere in the home directory (e.g. "~/Library/Application Support/Kod/themes/")

Stuff pointed out by Dana could be added by a future "Kod style" plugin. And let's put a reference to https://github.com/sickill/coloration here in case someone visits this ticket in the future with the need to convert a TextEdit theme.

Kod will come pre-packed with two themes in the future: one dark and one bright. Then people can share any number of custom themes with each other in various ways. Let's keep the defaults simple and light :)

I flag this as invalid since it's not really a true ticket but more of an idea. Please use the Google Group/forum for suggesting and discussing ideas in the future. Thanks.
