Sidebar shows replica of text editing area

What I did: I typed some sample text into the text editor area. Then I selected View -> Show sidebar from the menu bar using the mouse.
What I expected to happen: See an empty sidebar area, assuming the sidebar is for showing a list of files from a folder or project.
What actually happened: The sidebar area appears but contains almost an image snapshot of the text editing area from the moment when you chose to show it. Subsequent edits to the text will not be reflected in the sidebar area but, if you hide and show the sidebar again, it will again show a snapshot of the text editing area at that moment.
I attached a screenshot of this issue.
